Steam Punk Hand In!

After showing my steam punk work and watching everyone else's in my group yesterday its finally come to the hand in day, the first hand in for Design Practice this year.

I feel this project has really opened my eyes to what you can create/ accomplish in 3DS Max and if anything I've fallen more in love with it through trying so many new ways of creating in the program. The animating hasn't been my favoured part of the project as I had quite a few hiccups throughout. I found I just couldn't get my had round how to create a smooth walking sequence with my Robot. This also came up in feedback yesterday as Andy said it looked like he was floating every step, so this is something I really need to work on for the upcoming projects. The modelling side of the project was definitely something I enjoyed, so much I fully re designed my Steam Punk Robot. I'm glad I did now because looking back on my first Design it was really tacky and you could tell it I hadn't really thought about the brief during modelling it. Having spent a while looking into environments I also went a bit off the brief by creating such a big environment, when it should have been a small room, concentrating more on the Robot. But this is something I'll take forward into upcoming projects and make sure I have the right balance. Having completed this project I feel I've progressed on 3DS Max quite a lot in areas I didn't expect this project to touch but I feel this is because I went slightly off track with the environment, modelling and effects. For example mental ray, Having never used it I didn't really know what it can achieve and how much it can be used on, until I tried to create water and found an option for it in the material editor through Arch and Design. I think this projects opened my eyes to concentrate more on the modelling and environments out of University but keep a balance for projects I complete on my Multimedia course.
